Elderlife Experts

Elderlife Experts is a division of Ivory House Health Services which specifically addresses the needs of the older adult.

All of our nurses are degreed, and two are Certified Geriatric Care Managers. More than just helping hands, these advanced practice nurses have years of gerontological experience specifically assisting elders and their families.

With expertise in areas such as cardiac, orthopedic, neurological and endocrine disorders, our Elderlife Experts are fully trained to work with your aging loved one towards good health, independence and true quality of life.

Alzheimer's Care

Alzheimer’s disease is one of several disorders that cause the gradual loss of brain cells, first described in 1906 by German physician Dr. Alois Alzheimer. Although the disease was once considered rare, research has shown it to be the leading cause of dementia.

Other Forms of Dementia

Dementia is an umbrella term for symptoms of a decline in thinking skills such as loss of memory, exhibiting problems with reasoning or judgment, disorientation, difficulty in learning, loss of language skills and a decline in the ability to perform routine tasks. People with dementia may also experience changes in their personalities and behavioral problems such as agitation, anxiety, delusions and hallucinations.

Besides Alzheimer’s, other related disorders include frontal-temporal dementia, Lewy bodies, Parkinson’s disease, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and Huntington’s disease. There are treatable conditions like depression, drug interaction and thyroid problems as well as vascular dementia which is caused by a disruption of blood flow to the brain.

Between these, the challenge is to recognize and identify the true cause of the problem. With an informed early assessment and the proper medical resources, you have the chance of stabilizing or even improving some of these conditions. Accurate diagnosis, medication and appropriate stimulation are tools that we use to help your loved one achieve their optimal functionality.
